Are you Considering a Facial Filler?
Have you recently looked in the mirror lately and thought you may need a little something to bring back your youthful appearance? As we age, our skins natural collagen and elastin production slows down and our skin looses its fullness and tightness. There are so many treatments marketed today towards anti-aging and its often confusing which one may be the most effective for our individual concerns.
One of the major concerns our Clients discuss with us at Suite 103 Aesthetics is aging around the mouth and loss of volume in the cheeks. Clients are most often concerned with smile lines (parentheses), marionette lines, vertical upper lip lines and the corner lines on the sides of lips that often give the appearance of a sagging mouth and lower jaw. Loss of lip fullness is also a popular concern.
A very effective treatment for the areas of concerns listed above is the use of a facial filler. There are many facial filler products on the market and some are derived by more natural based ingredients, others use synthetic based ingredients. At Suite 103 Aesthetics we use Juvederm XC products, which are the first and only non-surgical hyaluronic acid (HA) filler (natural based filler) FDA-approved to instantly smooth moderate to severe wrinkles around your nose and mouth for up to one year. Additionally, Juvederm Voluma XC is the latest FDA-approved filler designed to provide fullness to the cheek area and results typically last between 18 and 24 months.
A little nervous about the treatment? Don’t be… here is how the process works. The doctor will consult with you to discuss your medical history, areas of concern and realistic expectations from the treatment. Prior to the treatment a topical based anesthetic will be applied to the treatment area for approximately 20 minutes. The doctor will inject a fine needle under the skin in the treatment area and will inject the gel. Typically there is little to no discomfort during the procedure. The injected gel plumps up the wrinkled or creased areas and provides a more even, smooth appearance to the skin. In regards to the cheek fillers, the gel will help to restore the contours of the cheek and will reduce that sunken appearance. Side effects are usually temporary and are most often limited to temporary swelling and bruising.
How much filler does one need? The amount varies from client to client but the filler is sold in full vials (1ml) and half vials (.4ml). Typically, a client will require 1 to 2 vials to treat the marionette lines along the sides of the nose and mouth. We like to take the conservative approach with our clients as more filler can always be added several weeks after the initial injection.
Fillers provide instant results and are the perfect treatment for those of us who want immediate results. Don’t fear looking like some of the unmentionables we so often see on TV, fillers can provide a natural, subtle improvement to the surface of the skin.
