It is that time of year when we suffer from dry, irritated skin. There are thousands of skin care products on the market today and we are often overwhelmed and confused as to which are the best and most appropriate products to use on our face. One of my favorite “must haves” in your daily skin care routine is Hyaluronic Acid. Sounds a little menacing but it is just the opposite. Simply defined, Hyaluronic Acid “HA” is a sugar molecule that occurs naturally in the skin and helps to bind water to collagen, trapping it in the skin so that the skin appears plumper and more hydrated. You will often hear me say that that HA holds up to 1,000 times its weight in water. That is an impressive plumping tool.
As we age, the production of our skins natural moisturizers will slow resulting in dehydrated, sagging skin. Daily use of HA will penetrate the epidermis (top layer of skin) for deeper moisturization, it will reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles, it can protect the skin’s natural collagen and elastin and defend against environmental damage.
