Vitamin A is used for fighting acne, diminishing the look of fine lines, softening the skin, improving discoloration from past breakouts and the sun, and decreasing pore size. Vitamin A also boosts collagen production and cell turnover and blocks the effects of the sun that break down existing collagen. Your doctor can prescribe a retinoid or tretinoin cream like Retin-A, Tazorac or Renova. However, lower strength retinol products have come a long way and can be very effective without the often side effects of flaking, red and sensitive skin. If you are looking for an effective anti-aging cream or serum, be sure to include a Vitamin A based product into your daily regimen.
Vitamin B3 is used for post-inflammatory hyperpigmention, sunspots, rosacea, redness and alleviating dry skin. Mostly commonly know as niacinamide or niacin, vitamin B3 acts as a barrier between the skin and the environment to block out external damaging agents-pollution, smoke and free radicals-that can break down the integrity of the skin and lead to dullness, wrinkles and loss of radiance. PCA’s Oxygenating Trio treatment contains niacinamide which helps stimulate cutaneous oxygenation and circulation rejuvenating sluggish, stressed skin resulting in a radiant, healthy glow.
Vitamin C is used for reducing sun damage and sun-induced discoloration, strengthening the skin, producing collagen and helping to make sunscreen more effective. One of the more potent vitamin-antioxidants out there, Vitamin C is the one experts use to treat unwanted pigmentation. Vitamin C acts like a sponge to soak up UV rays, helping to protect against skin cancer and premature aging. Make sure to include a Vitamin C based product into your daily skin care regimen.
Vitamin D is used for brightening a dull-looking complexion, boosting skin’s elasticity and fighting acne. We are all advised to shun the sun, but experts agree that Vitamin D is necessary for healthy skin, too. Vitamins D levels in the body drop with age. This anti-inflammatory has a track record for alleviating psoriasis, as it normalizes skin cell turnover. Its ability to reduce inflammation makes it ideal for inflammatory issues like acne and wrinkles.
Vitamin E softens the look of scars and limiting sun damage. A free-radical neutralizer, Vitamin E is best known for its skin-healing abilities, but it also carries natural sun-protecting capabilities and acts as an antioxidant. When it comes to skin care, tocopherol is the most effective form of the vitamin and tends to be sourced from naturally-derived extracts like wheat germ or vegetable oils.
Vitamin K is used for lightening dark under-eye circles and increasing elasticity in the skin. Vitamin K plays a role in the amount of blood that blood vessels leak and helps to constrict these vessels and reduce darkness under the eyes. While it’s primarily used to boost circulation, new research shows that Vitamin K may also help ward off wrinkles by making the skin more elastic.
